How to choose the dog food?

This is a very complex topic. Everyone tells you what is good and what is bad and so on. But I got a few points which are very important.

1. Only animal-based proteins and high-quality refinded meals - so no vegetable-based protein
2. Don't look only at the price. The cheapest food is most of the time not the right thing for your dog. There is no need to buy a very expensive one too. You have to look what is inside the food and then make your choice.
3. Look at the age of your dog. Most of the time there are different products for different ages. (Usually 1-12 months, 1-7 years and 7 years and older)

Her sister Ivy

The last time I forgot to mention that a good friend of us bought her sister so they can play together every week. I think its very good for the devolopment of the dog's character.
The learn to play with other dogs and they socialize faster than other dogs. It's good for the health aswell.
I think we can see Ivy nearly every weekend and from time to time under the week aswell.

Hope you like the picture. (Peach left - Ivy right)

Our new Cutie

This is our new cutie Peach. Right now she is 10 weeks old and it's an Australian Shepherd. (Wikipedia Link) As you can see she is so small and cute and here eyes are dark blue which is wonderful.

Hopefully we are able to train some tricks with her. But right now she is sleeping most of the time cause she is so young.

I will you keep updated and I will post more pictures soon!

How long shoud I walk with my dog?

I get this question a lot and there is not one single right answer to this question. There are some dogs who are just need to walk three blocks and there are dogs who need to walk a mile.
Remember: The shorter the dog's legs, the less distance he can go. Thats an important point. The breed is also important. Bulldogs as an example are not be able to walk as far as breeds with longer legs.
Also important is the enviroment. Is it very cold or very hot? When it is too hot or too cold you should not walk very long cause it's no fun for the dogs.

An very important factor is the age of the dog. When the dog normally doesn't get much exercise you can't walk or run a very long distance with him. Slow and steady is the better way.

The best way is to observere your dog. The most dog's show when they are tired then he walked far enough.

Cutest Dogs #1

From now on I will post every few day a few pics of the cutest pics I found in the world wide web. I hope you enjoy it.

Babies and Dogs

Today my news are actually pretty old but there is a new study that confirms it.
Babies who live together with pets are healthier that other babies.

Babies who live with a dog are 44% less likely to develop ear infections and 29% less likely to have used antibiotics.
They tested nearly 400 Finnish children during their first years.

Babies who lived with cats are also healthier but the effect was stronger with docs. The researchers think that exposure to dirt and microbes helps to cross-train a
babies immune system.

So parents there is no need to worry when there are pets arround!

Dog cookies

Thanks goes to Marilyn at simmertilldone.com for sharing this great recipe.
The photo above is of her finished product. They look good enough for people or what do you think? But she created them for her dog, Cleo:

"Cleo wasn’t feeling well. Our four-year old black Lab had a problem, in that special dog way of having a problem, the kind that finds you outside at 3 a.m., wondering how she ate a paper towel, a pen, six bagels and their bag. Of course dog owners know that goes with the territory, and messy territory it is. But a few years back our vet gave me some swell advice, the sort of helpful tip you never forget: pumpkin.
Turns out pumpkin, in addition to filling pies, soups, and being eminently carve-able, works a certain enzyme magic on stomach irritation. Does it work on people? I don’t know. My job was to get it into the dog. “Feed her a tablespoon of pumpkin,” he said, “mixed in her food. Or right from the spoon – if she’ll take it.”

She reports that these biscuits are such a tasty treat that dogs won’t even know they’re being fed something to settle their stomachs.
